 One script file for speed net is also attached.  This will solve the local speed post bag closing problem after the implementation of Speed post mail network optimisation.

Genie Ease Ticket


SIMPLE LOG FILE USING TEXT FILE.

Creating a Log file is very simple, we can use this file as our reference or we can use this as our Dairy also.



1) Right click on Desktop –>New->Text Document.
2) Save it as my log file or with any name like my dairy etc.
3) Open it and type .LOG and save it.
4) When you open it again you can see the current time and date automatically inserted.


We can write any thing and save, again when we open notepad automatically inserts the time and date.
Hope this little tool help us remembering what work we have completed at what time or what our scheduled work is.

What are the new enhancements?


1. Faster transmission: Currently in a single call only 100 money orders will be transmitted to the central server. This takes time to clear the transmission of money orders to central server in bigger offices. After the new upgrade Booked eMOs up to 500 will be transmitted through eMO client to central server in a single call.
2. User friendly Options in eMO Supervisor: option is to be used only details are already updated in central server but due to restoring of old database backup or any other reason; details are not updated in local database and are coming for invoicing etc. If an eMO is marked as then the same will not come for disaster paid entry/ redirection/ invoicing.

A new option for viewing/ removing the eMOs from is provided. If some eMOs are made as erroneously and later on it was found that these eMOs are to be disposed off, this option can be used so that they will come for and .

3. Simplified use of Disaster Recovery Option: Currently some difficulties are faced while using disaster recovery to clear paid eMOs. If the submit accounts was not done properly in Postman module then those eMO will not come for disaster recovery. Hence in order to expedite the clearing the legacy data easily submit accounts is disabled .Hence one can easily clear the eMO through Disaster Recovery even though submit account was not done for those eMOs This will apply to the eMOs booked up to 31.10.2010




4.Additional Information in Diaster recovery option: In Disaster recovery additional information like Booking Date is given and eMOs will be displayed according to Booking Date. This will facilitate to identify eMOs accurately.
5. More Reports for Monitoring: Reports such as eMOs Pending for / by eMO supervisor and eMOs marked as are provided. Using these reports the list of pending eMOs which are not yet verified by the supervisor can be checked. Upon checking this report, the eMOs can be verified for that particular date in verification option so that those eMOs will be updated as paid in the server. These reports are available both for Supervisor and Operator




6. Additional Print facility: Due to printer or other reason if any of the pages is not printed correctly then operator has to again print all the pages relating to that Bulk list. To solve this Page-wise printing for bulk payees provided.



7. Track facility in the Client: Search option is provided for knowing status of Local EMOs under Tools menu.
8. Additional information in Paid intimation report: eMO Paid intimation report is used by Booking PO to know the paid information regarding an eMO booked at that PO. Previously office at which a particular eMO is paid is not known in eMO paid intimation report. Now Paying pin code at which the eMO is paid is included in eMO Paid intimation report and will be available for eMO information received after eMO up gradation.

NEW DRIVER FOR HP LASER JET P 1007

Laser Printer Model HP LJ 1007 have been supplied to Post offices and Sub divisional offices under various Plan schemes. It has been brought to the notice of Technology Division that difficulty is being experienced to cancel the print jobs on HP LJ 1007 Laser Printer. The matter has been taken up with M/s HP. M/s HP has supplied a new printer driver software for HP LJ 1007 Laser Printer. It is informed that the new software will resolve the above mentioned problem. Down load the file from the link and Rename it as .zip and extract the new driver.

  WHILE WE TRY CREATE DATA BASE OF  SANCHAY POST IN WINDOWS 2008 SERVER, LOGIN WILL NOT BE CREATED.  SOLUTION IS GIVEN BELOW.

SUPPOSE YOUR DOMAIN NAME IS HODOMAIN

GO TO ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS--->GROUP POLICY MANAGEMENT--->EXPAND THE FOREST YOUR DOMAIN NAME--->HODOMAIN.COM EXPAND DOMAINS AND LOCATE YOUR HODOMAIN.COM LEAF



RIGHT CLICK ON DEFAULT DOMAIN POLICY AND FROM THE CONTEXT MENU SELECT "EDIT"


NAVIGATE TO THE FOLLOWING:

COMPUTER CONFIGURATON--> WINDOWS SETINGS-->SECURITY SETTINGS--->ACCOUNT POLICIES--> PASSWORD POLICY

Dealing with Station articles in project arrow offices.

   In Postman application, the local articles can be fetched using “Bag received” option in Operator login OR “Fetch from counter” option in Tools menu of Supervisor login. The users are expected to use only one of these options for fetching data of local article. When they use both the options, such articles will be shown as “Mail not sent out for delivery out of fresh receipt” in DET. The option “fetch from counter” has to be used only on the day of invoicing to postman, but not on the date of booking. The same thing will also work for speed net.



If both “Fetch from counter” option and “Bag details” option for receipt of the local articles then DET is adding both the articles and hence number of receipt will be more and issued to postman will come less. However in order to eliminate this condition PTC has forwarded one script Postman22042010.exl


Running this  script will eliminate the condition that only one to the two options i.e. either the fetch from counter option or bag details option should be used.


This may please be brought to the notice of all Project Arrow Offices specifically and to all computerized Post Offices in general. All concerned may be advised to book the station / local articles as per procedure and follow the above mentioned procedure for processing the same.

ENABLING TELNET IN VISTA SYSTEMS



When I try to use telnet feature in Vista, I couldn’t use it. After scrolling through Microsoft help, I learn that you need to enable it in Vista first.

Go to Start –>> Control Panel –>> Programs and features –>> Turn Windows features on or off

After that, check Telnet Client and click ok.

You should always use the same machine you have registered your office for ePayment file transmission.


In case you have to change the machine, say due to hardware failure, virus infection etc. Immediately after changing the machine


you have to re register your office in website and register your new client machine.

DO'S AND DONT'S-GUIDE LINES TO COMPUTERS USERS

DO'S
1. All PAs and Supervisors should use their own password and periodically changed (at least once in a fortnight) and should not be shared with any one to prevent access to unauthorized persons.
2. Take necessary precautions against natural hazards like fire, rain, dust, etc. Users should clean the printer, keyboard and monitor externally once in a week. Cleaning brush will be provided in the lab.
3. Printer should be switched off whenever it is not in use.
4. Take enough precautions against computer viruses by not allowing any outside floppy, pen driver or Compact Disk or any e-mail attachments for use without scanning for the viruses.
5. Periodical change of Ribbons in the Printer should be carried out. Please ensure that impressions are bright and clear.
6. Rectification of faults and maintenance should be carried out under proper and close supervision and service report from the service engineer should be obtained.
7. In case the shift system is in vogue, there should be proper handing and taking over of charge between shift in-charges.
8. Concerned supervisor should allocate Job to the Postal Assistants whenever Postal Assistant in the Counter and also in other branches is changed. Whenever delivery staff is changes proper name of the delivery personnel to be used. Concerned Supervisor may ensure that Postal Assistants enters into the system with their name and password only.
9. At close of work in a day, System should be shut down systematically and switch off the power plug too.
10. Wherever Day begin and Day End is prescribed, Supervisors may ensure that this is done by them.
11. In the case of sub offices the Postmaster should ensure that Backup of sanchaya post is sent to Supervisor SBCO in the first week of every month without fail.
12. Telephone connection and power supply to modem should be removed in the evening (during rainy seasons) to avoid damage to modem and computer.
13. Systems identified for the backup purpose should be switched off only after the backup is over.

DON’Ts

1. Don’t let any unauthorized person use your computer system.
2. Don’t share your password with any one, not even with your colleagues.
3. Don’t reveal the password to any person.
4. Don’t connect the computer directly to the mains.
5. No heavy electric load drawing machines like plain paper copier, shredding machines, coolers, etc. should be connected to the source of constant voltage power supply to the computer.
6. Don’t connect your computer system storing classified data to INTERNET.
7. Don’t allow staff members to bring their own pendrives/floppies/re-writable CDs to run on the computer system of the department.
8. Don’t use pirates or gifted copies of software as these may contain virus and even facilitate intrusion into the system.
9. Don’t play computer games. These could be the main carriers of computer viruses and an unsuspecting easy medium for an intruder to break into your computer system.
10. Don’t allow eatable and water near the computer as these attract rats/pests and raise the dust and moisture level to the detriment of the computer system.
11. Don’t switch off the computer suddenly. Sudden power fluctuation/failure may leads to corruption/deletion of data.
12. Don’t rotate the printer cylinder while the printer is in ON position. Switch off the printer when not in use.
13. Don’t work on Server system without Postmaster’s permission.
14. Don't plug or unplug any devices like keyboard, mouse etc., to the system while it is on.
15. Don't keep ledgers/books etc on systems, keyboards, mouse, weighing scales etc.
16. Don't connect UPS to lights, fans etc. Use exclusively for computers.

PC Troubleshooting Guide

5. Empty Recycle Bin: When you delete a file or a folder form your computer it first goes to the recycle bin and it covers the disk area of your C drive. It is imperative, to delete all the files and folders from the recycle bin and you will get the space of C drive for reusability.
6. Delete Temporary Files: Delete the temporary files and cookies from your computer to get the better speed. You can do this like Internet explorer > Tools > Internet options > Generals > Settings > View files > here you can delete all the temporary internet files.
How to Troubleshoot the Computer?

1. Trial and error: When you find a faulty component in your computer, first of you check it with the other computers so that you can make sure whether the fault is in the component or not.2. WINDOWS SERVER TIPS

Improve your Windows server's performance: 10 tips
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are a number of simple things you can do to help increase your server's performance. None of these things -- with the possible exception of moving the pagefile to a dedicated disk -- will do much by itself, but collectively these techniques can improve server performance noticeably.
1. Use a dedicated drive for the pagefile This is probably the tip that will give you the largest performance gain. By default, Windows creates a pagefile that it treats as virtual memory. Because Windows uses this file frequently, it's best to place it on a dedicated drive (not a dedicated volume). Doing so ensures that Windows will not have to wait on another application to finish using the hard disk before it can read data from the pagefile.

2. Keep your hard disks defragmented Modern hard drives are extremely fast when performing sequential reads. However, performance goes out the window when the disk is asked to read data stored in random locations. By keeping your hard disk defragmented, you ensure that blocks of files are placed in sequence rather than scattered randomly across the surface of the drive, thus allowing your computer to read files more efficiently.

3. Use the NTFS file system Although NTFS is the default file system for Windows servers, Windows does support the use of FAT and FAT-32 file systems. Every MCSE training book I've ever read recommends using the NTFS file system is because it is more secure than alternative file systems. What these books fail to mention is that NTFS is a transaction-based file system. This means that NTFS is slightly faster, and much less prone to corruption than the FAT or FAT-32 file systems.

4. Avoid running 16-bit applications 64-bit Windows operating systems can't run 16-bit applications at all, so this one isn't even an issue for those with 64-bit operating systems. 32-bit Windows operating systems will run 16-bit applications, but at a price. Windows uses a separate multitasking model for 16-bit applications than for 32-bit applications. The specifics of how Windows multitasks 16-bit applications would require a separate article, but suffice to say that running 16-bit applications negatively effects performance.

5. Look for memory leaks Memory leaks are caused by poorly written applications. It's normal for an application to request memory from the operating system on an as-needed basis. Typically, an application will return memory to the operating system when it is no longer needed. An application that contains a memory leak will ask for memory when it needs it, but will fail to release the memory when it is finished using it. The next time the application needs memory, it will ask Windows for more, rather than using the memory it has already reserved. Over time, Windows has less and less memory to assign to other applications. Memory leaks have a negligible effect on system performance at first, but over time their effects become more and more noticeable as the application continues to run. Although I said I wasn't going to talk about performance monitoring, Performance Monitor really is the best tool for finding memory leaks.

6. Remove seldom-used utilities Every server has come with all sorts of monitoring or logging utilities. If you use these utilities on a regular basis, there's nothing wrong with having them installed on the server. But it never fails to amaze me how many administrators install (or never remove) utilities that come with the server, and then never use them. Running an application you're not actually using is a waste of server resources.

7. Disable unused services On a similar note, I also recommend looking through the Service Control Manager and disabling any services that are not required for the role the server is performing. Not only will disabling unused services increase the server's performance, it will also increase the server's security. A law of computing states that the larger the executing code base, the greater chance that the code contains an exploitable vulnerability. By disabling unnecessary services, you are shrinking the size of the executing code base, thereby reducing the chances of the server containing an exploitable security hole.
8. Log off This is another example of a situation in which you can increase security and performance at the same time. You should always log off of a server when you're not actively using the console, for security reasons. At the same time, when you are logged on, Windows loads your user profile. This consumes memory and CPU cycles.

9. Compress the hard disk When Microsoft released MS-DOS 5.0, they introduced the disk compression feature. At the time, the idea was that a hard or floppy disk could be compressed so that more data would fit on the drive. Back then I tried using disk compression, and my computer slowed down so much that I went back to using an uncompressed disk, and never looked at compression again until recently. Today, under the right circumstances, compression can actually increase performance. Hard drives are typically the slowest component in a computer. However, if you can compress a file, you reduce its physical size, which also reduces the amount of time that it takes to read the file from the disk. At the same time, a compressed file must be decompressed after it has been read from the disk. The decompression happens on-the-fly in memory, and the process uses some CPU time in addition to memory. If your server is running a disk-intensive application that deals with a lot of individual files (not a database), compression may improve performance. Otherwise, you're probably better off not compressing a hard disk.

10. Adjust the server response A server is different from a desktop computer in that applications are not usually run from the server's console. That being the case, it's best to optimize the server so that applications running in the background take priority. You can do this by opening the Server's Control Panel and double-clicking the System icon. When Windows opens the System Properties sheet, go to the Advanced tab and click the Settings button found in the Performance section. Windows will now open the Performance Options properties sheet. Remotely Managed Franking System will be introduced in Postal DepartmentIndia Post has decided to introduce Remotely Managed Franking Machines in place of Electronic Franking Machines with effect from 16.8.2010 based on new technology with security features like generation of 2D barcode with frank impression and elimination of human intervention for uploading the credit in franking machines. Salient Features of the RMFS is as follows:-(a) Only India Specific models of Franking Machines with inkjet printing technology approved by the Directorate will be used.(b) No requirement of mechanical seals.(c) Amount for uploading the credit is to be credited at SBI or at Post office through e Payment.(d) The machine is to be connected to the central server three times every day for exchanging information on funds deposited, funds downloaded and uploading of reports etc.,(e) The credit will be uploaded in Franking machine on its dialing to RMFs server for the purpose. Meters will be set/re-set automatically.(f) Franking impression shall be in blue colour and will indicate class of article, pincode, authentication code, date of frank, mail item number, licence identified number, frank value and 2D barcode.(g) 2D barcode will have important information and the barcode can be scanned to check the genuineness of the frank impression.(h) Migration plan for phasing out the electronic FM is as follows:- (i) The scheme will be introduced with effect from 16.8.2010 (ii) Licences of all FMs which are older than 5 years will not be renewed. (iii) Licences of Electronic FM which are less than 5 years old may be renewed till completion of period of 5 years. (iv) No Electronic FM of old models shall not be allowed

TIPS TO NEW SYSTEM ADMINISTRATORS


Please check the following
1.backup schedule is working properly. Check whether backup is copied to nodes. Create a backup schedule to copy the data base to node in noon. Also set a schedule in the evening. Inform the officials to shut down the system only after the backup is over.
2.copy the server components to one of the nodes. Point of sale , sub accounts, treasury and speed net server componet should be copied to node. If the server fails, we can copy the server components to the new server. So that all users and work allocation can be retrieved.
3. Copy the config files of emoclient and epayment client to another system or another location in the hard disk . If the config file is corrupted we can restore this config file.
4. Go to SQL enterprise manager and check whether any data base is corrupt. If msdb database is corrupted all of our packages will work. But database maintenance plans will not work. This is very important. If msdb is corrupted restore the msdb using the query to restore the same.
5. It is noticed that data base of some sub offices are corrupted due to power failure or some problem with hard disk. Hence while you visit sub office, open the query analyzer and run the following query by selecting data bases one by one . If some problem is with the database, error will display in red colour. Then try to repair the database. If repair fails, restore the latest backup and check the data base for consistency.

it is very important. Otherwise the problem will come only after two or three weeks.
6.Shrink the database log files using the query to shrink the database. For sql 2000 , query is available in PTC site. For SQL 2005 it is a part of database maintenance plan. We can check that option in the maintenance plan wizard.
