Hard disk failure is possibly the worst thing that can happen to your computer and it often occurs without giving any warning signs.

Test Your Hard Drive for Impending Problems

You may however run certain tests on your computer beforehand to get an idea about the current condition of your hard disk. This should in turn help you decide whether a replacement drive is necessary or not.

Step 1: Check your hard disk for errors

All recent versions of Windows include a utility called Chkdsk.exe that can check your hard disk for any bad sectors.
You may either run Chkdsk from the command line (see details) or launch Windows Explorer, right click the drive that you wish to examine and choose Properties. Switch to the Tools tab and click the “Check Now” button under Error checking. Select “Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors” to perform a thorough disk check.

Step 2: Understand the sounds of your disk

HOW TO HIDE THE HDD PARTITIONS?

This trick is for all those people who wants to hide tons of data into their box. So here it is, if you have very important data in your hard drive placed in some partition which you do not want anybody to see then this trick is only for you!!!

1. Just click on start>run type gpedit.msc

2. Now navigate through user configuration> administrative templates > windows components> windows explorer

3. Double click on “Hide these specified drives in My Computer” modify it accordingly.

4. Then just below you will find another option “Prevent access to drives from My Computer”, double click on this option and modify it accordingly.

5. To make it visible again select "disable" by double clicking on the “Hide these specified drives in My Computer” option.

WARNING:Don't try to experiment with other options in gpedit.msc if you don't know, what exactly your doing. Just have some patience and follow my tutorials regularly, i am going to tell you everything that is configurable in windows [and those also which you thought before, "Seems not possible to change ;-)" ].

HOW TO SCHEDULE AUTOMATIC BACKUP IN SQL 2008 EXPRESS EDITION.

Launch Management Studio and connect to the SQL server instance that contains the database that you want to back up. Right click on the database and then in the menu choose Tasks - Back up... This will open up a window where you can choose your backup options. Click on the "Script" button near the top and select the "Script Action to File" option. Save the File.
Now,ceate a Schedule Task to Run the Backup Script
a) Open up Windows Task Scheduler. b) Create a new Task using the wizard, when asked to select a program browse to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\binn\SQLCMD.exe

MSDB RECREATE IN SQL 2005

If your msdb goes suspect then you have two choices, restore it from a backup or recreate it (and then recreate any scheduled jobs). Obviously everyone has a comprehensive and valid set of backups, right? If only...
Of course, the very first thing you do is work out why it went suspect in the first place and take any necessary steps to stop it happening again.
Now you'd hope that if you don't have a valid msdb backup then you can at least run repair on it and so you don't lose everything in there. Well, that works as long as the transaction log isn't damaged. Ok, but then surely we can stick the database into the now-documented emergency mode (alter database dbname set emergency) and run emergency mode repair? (dbcc checkdb (dbname, repair_allow_data_loss) in emergency mode). Nope, msdb can't be put into emergency mode.
So, you're out of options and you're going to have to recreate msdb. Here's what to do (change the directory paths to suit your installation):

1. Detach the damaged msdb. You can't just detach msdb because you're not allowed to detach system databases. However, you can if you start the server with trace flag 3608. I did this by shutting down the server, navigating to the directory 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Binn' and doing the following: start sqlservr.exe -c -T3608

   2.   Move or rename the damaged msdb files (msdbdata.mdf and msdblog.ldf in the
        'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data' directory)
   3.   Run the instmsdb.sql script in the 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL       Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Install' directory

4.Shutdown and restart the server without the 3608 trace flag
This works on SQL Server 2000 as well.
Hopefully you'll never have to do this but if you ever do, let me know how it goes for you.

The DoP has selected five major technology companies for five of its technology advancement projects.It has issued a Letter of Intent to Infosys for two projects including rural system and financial services integration; Tata Consultancy Services for change management; Sify for network integration and Reliance Communications Infrastructure for data centre.

The department plans to start execution of some of these projects by end of this year across six states on a pilot basis.It has already received approval for Rs 1,877 crore to be spent across these projects over a period of two years and will seek additional funds when the need arises.“Funds of Rs 1,877 crore have been approved,” said Parasher. “We will go ahead with that. We may need more money because implementation in some of the cases may last over six-nine years.”The department will computerise all of its 1.6 lakh post offices across the country by 2013 with over 24,000 department post offices already computerised by March.

With an aim of providing better services to the people, the DoP has decided to computerise at least 250 post offices in Jammu and Kashmir during the current year. “During this year, the department has taken the ambitious plan of computerising 250 post offices and modernising them to make them relevant,” said John Samuel, chief postmaster general, J&K Circle.                 After entering the details in the COUNTER login, the transaction should be authorized by the Supervisor. Only after the transaction is authorized by the supervisor, it will be reflected in the LOT.

2.            Cleared RD PRSS/agent cheques are not shown in ‘RD PRSS Post Entries’ form for selection.

                 While preparing the cheque list, select the scheme as ‘RDPRSS’ in case of agent’s  providing softcopy of the list created through ‘RD Customer Package 3.0’ provided by SDC with version 6.6.1 . Conficker first disables system services like Windows Automatic Update, Windows Error Reporting, etc. and then connects to a web server from where it downloads additional malware onto the victim’s computer. The worm also attaches itself to certain Windows processes such as svchost.exe, explorer.exe and services.exe.

Prevent Conficker on your Windows machine

To prevent Conficker virus from infecting your Windows computer, you first need to disable the AutoRun feature. This can be done by downloading and installing certain updates manually for Windows XP or Windows 2000. Windows Vista users can skip this step as this is taken care of via automatic updates.
Now click Start, Run and enter gpedit.msc and click OK.

Under Computer Configuration, expand Administrative Templates. Now for Windows XP, click System and for Windows Vista, click Windows Components then Autoplay Policies. In the Settings pane, right-click Turn off Autoplay, and then click Properties.

Click Enabled, and then select All drives in the Turn off Autoplay box to disable Autorun on all drives. Click OK and restart the computer.
