The Department of Posts has launched the office of Logistics Post in the city at Daba Gardens for providing cost- effective and efficient distribution of various goods from one destination to another.
Test market of the service was launched here on Monday by Chief Postmaster General (Andhra Pradesh) B.V. Sudhakar in the presence of Postmaster General (Visakhapatnam) Sharda Sampath and PMG (Vijayawada) M. Sampath.
“We have linked the city to Vijayawada. Already we have connectivity between Hyderabad and Chennai and Hyderabad and Bangalore. If required we will arrange door pickup,” Mr. Sudhakar told reporters later.
Logistics Post, an innovative service, would take care of entire distribution side of the logistics infrastructure from collection to distribution, storage to carriage, order preparation to order fulfilment at the lowest possible price. Consignments can be sent either in full truck load or less, one or multi-parcels based on the need.
Mr. Sudhakar said they would use a special network for carrying and delivering packages and consignments across the State.
He said the tariff would be charged depending on weight, volume and distance. The weight slab is 50 kg.
The Department of Posts would send consignments by road, rail and air.
India Post has a fleet of exclusive aircraft to carry Logistics Post air consignments in addition to a fleet of vehicles for transport by road.
Pick and pack
Mr. Sudhakar said they were also providing warehousing option for storage of goods on extra payment. He said they would also provide ‘pick and pack’ facilities based on specific requirements. He said those needing return services would find Logistics Post the ideal solution by signing a business agreement for ‘reverse logistics.’
